Meredith College Music Department presents the First Annual
Woodwinds Bootcamp with members of NC Symphony, NC Opera Orchestra, and Blue Mountain Forecast,  June 12-16, 2022

Eligible Participants

  • Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Saxophone

  • Middle and High school sessions

  • Band directors: Woodwind methods brush-up sessions, Double Reed workshop, Q & A

Basic Schedule and Fees:

Sunday: meet and greet, faculty performances. ALL participants 1-4 pm 

Monday-Thursday
Middle School students (rising 6-8 graders) will have morning sessions from 9:00-1:30 with   lessons, workshops, group masterclasses and ensembles. Cost: $195.00.

High School students (rising 9-12 graders) will have afternoon sessions from 12:30-5:00 with lessons, workshops, and rehearsals with a pianist, group masterclasses, and ensembles. Cost: $195.00

Registration Deadline: June 1, 2022 (late registrations accepted on a space-available basis)

NOTE: High school participants will be contacted prior to camp regarding placement and your previous experience in music. Please attach a short 2-3 minute video recording to this registration demonstrating your skill level.

Feature activities:  faculty performances, masterclasses and open rehearsals, student performances and chamber groups, etc. Sample sessions:

  • Breathe: Just like you always do, but better!

  • Bucket Band

  • Making the most of opportunities: auditions, resources, youth orchestra, and All-District

  • Mock auditions

  • Faculty Quintet open rehearsal: Ensemble Skills and Sight Reading

  • History of the Wind Quintet  - develop ensemble skill through this colorful, varied, and amazing repertoire

  • Fundamentals: technique, listening, basic theory

  • Improv: baroque to jazz

Artist-Teachers

Our outstanding faculty represent major Triangle ensembles and NC colleges, including our own Meredith College faculty. After our year with Covid, this is an excellent opportunity for students to work with experienced specialists on their instruments and to kick-start the new year with in-person masterclasses, ensembles, lessons and performances. These workshops will be a wonderful supplement to private lessons, or a starting point for focused practice and best habits. Blue Mountain Artist-Teachers include:
